Q1 2024

Lets get right into it in no particular order! First up, is yet another giftart for a co-worker leaving. The last blog post opened up exactly the same way so why not.

Dave leaving to become a Dundee postman

Lots of Dundee themed easter eggs in here. He’d been employed for 8 years hence the football score. A 2001 space odyssey joke since video doorbell + being named Dave. A cheeky keg of Tennent’s to help get through a tough shift of dodging dogsh*t and drugs. The machinery he operated was called the “Canon press” hence the speech bubble. Quite proud of that one 🤓.

The development of it. I’m glad I’ve made a lifelong habit of showing my in-progress screenshots now that A.I images are rampant.

For one of my Banff buddies, I’ve been working on creating imagery for his brand. He’s a performing musician from Banff. “Live music from Billy Barron”.

Some test mock ups to try and ground a style for his brand going forward.

We opted to go for something undistracting and music orientated.

The final design and chosen colour scheme.

I’m looking forward to hopefully doing more stuff for him in the future. promotional posters, business cards etc.

Another ongoing project for one of my Banff buddies is a logo for a Twitch brand. My pal Burnz “c4pn_b33r_m4n” is needing an official logo created.

Some of the earlier tests.

The groovy one was just a speculative muck around. One of the inspirations for the font direction was the Judas Priest & Violator typography.

Colour variants. Possibly too abstract and readability suffers. Alphanumeric usernames can already be difficult to parse so I reeled back from this style.

His final pick.

I took my time with this one because I wanted to lay a super solid groundwork for the style going forward. Next up I need to recreate it at different aspect ratios. Plus he wants two background illustrations made also, which I’m stoked to crack on with.

Yet another Banff project! I made a spruced up asset recreation of a friends chip shop.

The actual chip font was the favourite.

The Crown Chippy in Banff. Just like the rest, I’m keen to make more if asked. I felt so big brained coming up with using chips as the letters.

I haven’t blogged since it happened, but I managed the 2024 Kiltwalk! making it my second successful Kiltwalk in a row.

It was considerably less miles then the previous one thank god(1 mile feels like 5 when it’s right at the end). And we managed to best our funding from last year, up a fair chunk from 2022’s £444.

We’re ambitiously taking on 2 Kiltwalks for 2024. Dundee & Edinburgh. The Justgiving page and promotional assets are still in development. We have a goal of £1000 to reach for this time. More updates to follow! Same charity and duo.

Back in September 2023 I went on a special trip down to London with my pal Lewis to witness the Sonic Symphony Concert Tour. I’ve been to quite a number of Sonic performances down there, and this was the best one yet. the show had a synchronised music video on a huge screen, a supremely talented orchestra, a complimentary rock band, crowd sing-along and a epic light show. How could it not be the best one yet. It was downright sensory overload for a Sonic aficionado.

As soon as a Blu-Ray/CD release of the performance is released, that’s a day 1 purchase for me.

Now unusually, time for a something of a downer! years back, I drew a bit of Crush 40 fanart. As evidenced here.

Imagine my shock when I see the Crush 40 frontman tweet it out! Albeit credited to some complete rando.

The individual in question is likely just some clueless kid. They’ve got official Sega renders in their Deviation gallery (?). Not the first time my art has been stolen. The Metal Sonic OVA illustration frequently makes the rounds online.

One upcoming arty thing I can confirm is the (now yearly I guess?) Halloween meme video. Me and my buddies did another spooky video game stream on Halloween and I’ve sent the first draft off to my co-editor. Soon as I get it back, it’ll be on my youtube channel.

It ended up being twice the length of the 2022 vid.

I would boast about all my upcoming things I want to work on, or half finished projects but it’s getting to be really daunting just how much I have on my plate! I’ll just say watch this space.
