week 10 end

this post is just pretty much a blog about random stuff I didn’t have time for in the previous two posts.

saw a nifty looking playstation network game called where is my heart? it`s a psmini game, which is basically downloadable games but with even less bravado then some of the more big profile offerings. it seems like the perfect place for smaller indie developers to get their ideas out, and this game looks like the perfect example.

it`s got a really charming pixelly art style and a (according to reviews) ingenious gameplay mechanic which gets extremely challenging in the later stages.

no real justifiable reason to show it off. just though the game looked cool and the concept of psminis was worth bringing up

that`s all for research stuff. i`m not sure whatever to keep blogging about literature now i`ve gathered a large amount of stuff to work with. just hope it doesn’t eat into my production efforts.

speaking of which, got round to scanning some of the ideas for the media tests.

my tutor Gregor gave me an idea involving the character tearing off pixels from himself to use as projectiles. only downside is, his body parts act as his health too. so i`m trying to design a square-shaped alien to take advantage of that. got a mood board for that particular concept here.

the concept I have in my head is, a uber colourful alien world with forgiving platforming to allow the health versus ammo mechanic to shine. the world would be `block` themed but not strictly like how minecraft is. most of the world would be pixel blocks but presented at different angles.

here’s a mood board for the bit cops level and villain.

got big ideas for a level showcasing a whole array of elements such as Regen health, ammo sharing, cover system, mouse aiming, environment scanning (forensics) vehicular set pieces, destructive scenery and a final bombastic chase sequence. a lot to do, but thankfully it`ll only be an animation and not playable. I imagine these tests will give me plenty of experience for my final product. still need to devise a third one however.

non uni work below this line

got the xenoblade lets play video uploaded. for the Nintendo competition I submitted a 10 minute version which was hellish to make. there’s about 30 minutes worth of stuff so chopping it down was difficult to say the least, and keeping it coherent. I spent a loooong time on it, and since we didn’t win, I get to upload the full length version instead. negating all that hard editing work I did. fuck.

oh well! here it is! enjoy!

at this rate,i might have time in my life to start making legend of fail again! 😀 wouldnt that be nice
